Using the Reference Library
The Reference Library is open to all patrons and guest of the Maury County Public Library. Using the Reference Library is easy, but if you should encounter a problem, library staff members are always on hand to assist.
Suggested Steps of Library Usage
Step
1: Any visit to the library should begin with a trip to the Online Public
Access Catalog (O-PAC). From there you can sift through the library's
collections, searching by title, author, subject or call number. This is an easy
way to see if the library has any books that could help you in your research. Be
sure to write down any titles of books, along with the author and call numbers,
because you will need them for the next step. If this is your first trip to
the library, ask library staff members to give you a quick card catalog (O-PAC)
tutorial.
Step
2: Take the sheet of paper with the book's information on it and go to the
shelves. All non-fiction books are shelved according to Dewey Decimal
Classification Numbers and the author's last name. This information is the call
number and it should be listed on the spine of the book you are looking for. If
for some reason you can not find the book you need, please see front desk staff
and ask for assistance.
Step 3: Now, you have the book you need. If it belongs to the Reference Library it can not be checked out, however you may use it for as long as you may need it inside the library. Copiers are available if you need to make copies. (The price is .25 cents per page and the machine takes quarters only.) When you are finished with the book, please place it on the "USED ITEMS" shelf. PLEASE, DO NOT RE-SHELVE THE BOOKS YOU USE!
